Design and build.

One person draws the site and then builds it, through to the last file. Here the drawing and the building are the same job.

WHAT IS MADE

The structure comes first — what the thing is for, what a visitor has to be able to do, and the order it is read in — settled in writing before anything is drawn.

The design follows, at every width it will be seen at, decided on the real words and the real pictures rather than on a grid of grey boxes.

The build comes from the same hands: Next.js, React and TypeScript, written and deployed by the person who drew it.

No template, no page builder, no theme bought and dressed — every page is drawn for the thing it is about and written by hand.

Product work runs the same way and goes further: the flows, the states nobody screenshots, the empty one and the broken one, and the database under them when the work needs one.

The 目次 menu over the homepage: void ink has flooded the whole sheet from the button it was struck at, and the four rooms are resolving out of an ordered dither field. WORK and PROCESS have landed as clean type; ABOUT and CONTACT are still screened.

IN THE RECORD

This site and the studio's client portal were both drawn, built and deployed this way, by one person. Both are filed in the record with what was made and what it was built with.

HOW IT RUNS

Four steps, in order.

  1. a

    Foundations

Structure and scope are settled in writing first, with target dates set against them. Nothing is built ahead of that, and changing it takes a change order rather than a conversation.

  2. b

    The build

You watch it happen in your own portal rather than in a presentation at the end of a month.

  3. c

    Revisions

Each deliverable carries up to two rounds, and delivery is measured against the written scope rather than against preference.

  4. d

    The correction

You have ten business days from delivery to name in writing anything material that falls short of it, and I correct that at no charge and deliver again. The correction runs once per deliverable; past that it is a revision.

WHAT YOU LEAVE WITH

  • The finished site or product, live, on your own domain and in your own accounts.Live · your domain
  • The whole repository: every file, in a history you can read, with the reasons written where they are not obvious.Repository · full history
  • The design system underneath it: tokens, type scale, colour, and the components the pages are made of.Tokens · scale · components
  • What somebody who is not me needs in order to keep it running: how it builds, where it is hosted, and what is in the environment.Build · hosting · environment
  • Every source file behind the finished work.Source files

On full payment the finished work is assigned to you, to use in and around your business. The rest of the paper — what the studio keeps, what it may show, and the two limits that ride with the assignment — is printed in full on the hub.

THE INVESTMENT

$20,000Design and build commissions begin here.

Scope and fee are agreed in writing before work begins, and the fee is fixed by the scope it is written against. The usual schedule is half on signing, half on delivery.

ASKED AND ANSWERED

  • How much does a custom website design and build cost?

Design and build commissions begin at $20,000. The floor is where they start rather than what they cost: the structure and the scope are agreed in writing first, and that written scope is what fixes the fee. Changing it takes a change order both of us sign. The usual schedule is half on signing, half on delivery, and the agreement can name a different one. The invoices are issued and paid in your own portal.

  • How long does a custom website design and build take?

Structure and scope are settled in writing first, with target dates set against them, so the calendar is written after the brief rather than quoted before it. Nothing is built ahead of that. Each deliverable then carries ten business days of review from the day it lands in your portal, and late feedback or late materials move the dates day for day.

  • Do you design products as well as websites?

Yes. Product design is taken under this commission rather than a separate one. It runs the same way and goes further: the flows, the states nobody screenshots, the empty one and the broken one, and the database under them when the work needs one. The studio's own client portal was designed and built that way, and it is filed in the record as entry 003.

  • Who owns the code and the design files when the site ships?

You do, on full payment: the finished work is assigned to you, to use in and around your business. You leave with the whole repository, in a history you can read, live on your own domain and in your own accounts. The studio keeps its working files and the directions not taken. The work is not resold or sublicensed as a product of your own, and it is not used to train machine-learning systems without written consent.

  • Do you build on WordPress, Webflow, or a template?

No template, no page builder, no theme bought and dressed. The build is Next.js, React and TypeScript, written and deployed by the person who drew it, and every page is drawn for the thing it is about. You leave with the design system underneath it as well as the pages: tokens, the type scale, colour, and the components the pages are made of.

  • Do you take clients outside Utah?

Yes. The studio is based in Utah and the work is done remotely, in your own portal: the agreement is signed there, the invoices are paid there, and the finished files are handed over there. The site or product itself ships to your own domain and your own accounts. The paper counts its days in United States business days, measured in Mountain Time, and it is written under Utah law.
